About

Our world is full of pre-existing media.

Why create something new when I can repurpose an existing memory?

Found imagery provides me with a challenge and angle that creating an image from scratch does not.  With a camera you can compose the scene, with the found image I have to think critically about why and what the image was and what it can become.  The expression on an individual’s face, the situation the people are in, and many other elements tied to the photograph all interest me.  Why did the photographer take that picture?  What did they see and more importantly what does it mean to me?  These are just some of the questions I ask while examining a found photo.

Growing up undiagnosed with mental illnesses, I had limited creative outlets.  I enjoyed looking at printed media and thinking about who the people were in them and what their life was like beyond the image.

My work revolves around people.  What does one person think of another?  Have we seen it before?  How does my ongoing challenge with mental illness shape me?  What does our health mean?  These are all questions I wish to examine with my work, there is always the human presence in everything I work with.
